A Guide to Bend Pipes: What They Do and Why They Matter

A bend pipe sits between the engine’s exhaust header and the silencer inlet, routing the exhaust gas around the frame and swingarm on its way to the tailpipe. It’s an easy part to overlook because it’s hidden along the underside of the bike, but a poorly fitting one causes two problems: an exhaust leak at either joint, and a rattle from stress on the mounting points as the engine vibrates.

Our bend pipes are chrome-plated mild steel tube, built to the specific routing geometry of the bike model they’re listed for — the bends, not just the length, have to match, or the pipe will sit under strain at the clamps from day one.

If you’re fitting a new silencer with a different inlet diameter or clamp style than stock, check whether your existing bend pipe is still compatible before assuming it will bolt straight across — that mismatch is one of the more common causes of an exhaust leak after a silencer swap.
